Thousands strain Posts Mental Health System

How can a complete take over of the US health system by the government provide Americans the care they need?    A recent headline in the August 23, 2010 edition of USA Today newspaper Thousands strain posts mental health system provides us with a picture of the future the Democrats have so proudly created with the passage of a Healthcare package.

Magnify the failure of the care of our troops in one post, Fort Hood nationwide.   The article brings attention to the need of our troops for emotional help for combat stress, substance abuse, problems with marriages........ mental anquish.... more than what was anticipated by our Army.   it is said 1/4 of the our troops at this post are affected.   The fact is this issue alone overwhelms the system in place to help them.     Colonel Steve Braverman's comment we are full to the brim including use of private local clinics that are open long hours six days a week to help take care of the demand.   Yet suicides outpace 2009 figures.   Statistics are staggering.   Special programs are created to provide private assistance to allow soldiers to get counseling that will remain off their medical records.   This program has seen a 72% increase in sessions provided.  What is important to Americans is hidden towards the end of the article.   "Quote"   Even this program struggles to cope with all those needing help and getting the money to pay for it."  .............If the numbers of patients keep climbing, soldiers will give up waiting to see someone and avoid seeking help.   Private clinics that contract with the military to handle overflow patients are overworked...

I wonder if this is the health care our military receives, then what is in store for Americans.  Aren't our soldiers worthy of better health care.   Wonder why the Democrats in office didn't consider taking care of those who protect our freedoms with a better healthcare system before creating a monster system our government cannot manage well.

The future is yet to be determined.   If the current military system is an example of our future, then our future is scary.

Mr. Happy, thank you for your honest comment. Government run healthcare has its issues like any healthcare system. In America, crooked politicans, lobbyists, and abuse has created the debacle we now face. Healthcare when provided as a work benefit allows more freedom and better healthcare as businesses and employees work hard to provide the profit and incentive to create new programs better suited to their health care needs. Healthcare changed as costs soared, employers challenged insurance companies to offer more. Lower costs medical centers were provided. Kaiser Permanente and others offered lower costs for more healthcare. Alternative options were added, chiropractic services, eye care, dental and mental health were added to many healthcare programs. Costs were kept to a minimum, government offered tax incentives to help pay for services. With Government run healthcare we will pay more in taxes for less services. Businesses can now offer the basic required service reducing what was offered, increasing our medical costs. What healthcare we could once afford may be reduced. Noone knows for certain the outcome of the costs. We do know we have lost a freedom.

Honestly, many countries have healthcare covered by the government and do very well. Actually most first world nations provide free health care for their citizens: Canada, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Neatherlands, Sweeden ... I can go on forever really. Only the crooked politicians and lobbyists in the United States have succeeded in scaring the population out of the public health care option and would like to leave millions of Americans without health care. Shamefull!
